Original: A New York man was seriously injured Friday afternoon, Oct. 11, after crashing his SUV into a pole in Fairfield County, authorities said. 

Police were called to 690 Atlantic St. in Stamford just before noon after a 71-year-old man was found unresponsive in his vehicle after it had struck the pole.

First responders gave the driver medical treatment until paramedics could rush him to Stamford Hospital, where he remained in critical condition., 

Authorities ask anyone who saw the crash or has any information about it to contact Stamford Police investigators at 203-977-4712.
